Hello Birmingham Co-op Members,
You are sure to see that the costs of, well, everything are increasing around us. And every increase leads to more increase.
Due to the rising expenses that My Dad and Me Family Farm is experiencing, the price of Milk is being increased. Effective immediately, the price will be raised to $12.00 per half gallon. To give further explanation, I've included some
information below about the Milk from My Dad and Me Family Farm!
As always, thank you for your continued patronage at My Dad and Me Family Farm.

Why Is Our Milk So Expensive?
Did you know that studies show that if we drink milk from cows that are grass fed, it actually
reduces our risk of cancer? Even though this is a proven fact, most commercial dairies are still feeding huge amounts of grain instead of grass. This is because grain boosts milk production tremendously. However, this increase in production comes at an enormous cost to the health of the animal and to those of us that consume the milk. Here at My Dad & Me Family Farm, our cows are 100% grass fed. This adds considerable cost to the milk since grass fed animals only produce
a couple of gallons a day whereas their commercial counterparts give an excess of 12 gallons a day. Grass fed cows produce a super-rich and creamy milk that is beneficial to maintaining excellent health. Our farm is committed to always being 100% grass fed!
My Dad & Me Family Farm milks 100% registered Jersey cows. While it costs more to purchase
registered Jerseys, their milk is undisputedly the highest quality milk in the entire world. Whereas the typical commercial cow produces milk with approximately 3.5% cream, the amazing Jersey cow oftentimes offers a cream line nearly double that. That means an abundance of rich, wholesome milk and plenty of cream left over for ice cream!
Even though we are not certified by the government, My Dad & Me Family Farm maintains all of
our pastures organically. Our land enrichment program includes: sea salt, coral calcium, fish emulsion, skim milk, and our treasured barnyard manures collected from our cows, pigs, and chickens. While these amendments are the very best for the land, they come at a much higher cost. These high-quality amendments help build healthy and green pastures.
My Dad & Me Family Farm seeks to purchase local hay that is free from commercial fertilizers
and harmful chemicals. In addition, we have begun securing certified organic alfalfa hay from Pennsylvania. The cost of organic hay is approximately twice that of conventional hay and the hauling fee is adding to the cost of the milk. Our goal is to provide the highest quality forages for our cows.
Using glass jars instead of plastic jugs adds to the farm labor cost, but we feel that this is
well worth the effort. Glass is free from harmful contaminants found in plastic and adds no unwanted flavor to the milk. Glass also helps to keep our landfills empty!
We, at My Dad & Me Family Farm, believe in the founding principles set forth in our
Declaration of Independence, our Constitution, and our Bill of Rights. We do not believe that it is right for our government to be subsidizing any private business with tax payers’ money. Therefore, we refuse to accept any government assistance to make our farm sustainable. If we are to succeed, it will be by God's grace, our consistent labor, and by generous support from folks just like you!
