Farm Update

Hello Farm Friends,

We are very excited to introduce you to the latest member of our farm family. Angel is a two year old registered Jersey heifer that is due to calve on August 18. We purchased her from Berry College where our son, Jacob, went to school for his undergraduate degree. She is settling in well with the rest of the herd and is very gentle and sweet. She seems to have a great personality and loves people.

As you can see in the photo below, David is starting to distribute our compost pile on the front garden getting it ready for next year. All the gardens here at My Dad & Me Family Farm are managed through crop rotation and lots of composted cow and chicken manure. We never use commercial fertilizers or sprays that damage the soil and the people that eat the produce from it.

The blackberries are still coming in. They started out very sweet and then, when we started getting lots of rain and no sunshine, they became very tart. Now that the sun has been coming out the berries have sweetened up again. So if you would like some delicious blackberries, the egg refrigerator is  full! We would like to say a word of thanks to Nick Bramlett for helping us keep the blackberries and blueberries picked.

Recently, Farmstead Fresh cheese started making an organic raw sheep cheese (also called Shof Kase). We had the privilege of eating some a couple of days ago and it is delicious!

The August 3 broilers are all sold out and we are now selling broilers for the September 7 processing date. As we get closer to the last processing date which is in October keep in mind that if you want to have birds for the winter it is a good idea to start stocking up now. We will not have enough birds for everyone to get all that they want on the last processing date since most we can process in one day is about 225 and still manage to get the cows milked on both ends. You can email your orders to us and mail a deposit or just come by and fill out a broiler order form with your deposit.

For those of you that are on the waiting list to join the farm, our hope is to have some openings in the near future with the addition of Angel. We will be in touch soon!

We are excited to announce that we have gone over the 2000 mark of farm subscribers! We wish that we could service all of you but it is our pleasure to provide goods to over 500 active members. Thank you all for patronizing My Dad & Me Family Farm! We would not be here without You!

  Sincerely,

Baby Bump,Willie, Tina and David; Anna, Susan and Daniel
