We are excited to announce that My Dad & Me Family Farm is now a 100% Grass-fed Dairy!
For several years, we have been pushing the genetic limits trying to move our herd to their natural diet of forages: green grass, dry hay, and fermented grass balage. Studies show that milk from grass-fed cows actually lowers cancer risks. Therefore, this has been a goal of ours for some time and as of January 1, 2013 we will have reached this goal! Our cows have been 100% grass-fed for over 6 weeks already while we waited to make sure it was sustainable.

In conjunction with reaching our goal of 100% grass-fed, My Dad & Me has also met another landmark goal for the farm. Our dairy herd is now comprised of 100% Registered Jersey Cows. When My Dad & Me first started six years ago, we purchased Jerseys from whatever source we could find since good Jersey cows were hard to acquire. Today, we are milking many of our own heifers born right here on our farm. We have gradually weeded out all unregistered animals.

But that is not all! Like many of you, the growing contamination of our food and feed supply, with genetically modified organisms
(GMOs), is and has been of great concern to us. The overwhelming problem has been that organic feeds were not available in the south without extremely high shipping costs to truck down feed from the north. Recently, we have discovered a mill in VA that is offering certified organic feed at a reasonable cost to allow more farms to be able to afford organic feed. Even though the shipping is still high, the mark-ups from the mill are being kept to a minimum. We believe it is now doable for our farm. We have been feeding the new organic feed to our laying hens and rabbits for several weeks now; and in the spring, we'll also be feeding it to our broiler chickens. As of January 1, 2013 we are "officially" feeding 100% Certified Organic, GMO-free Feed.

The commercial food supply is loaded with non-whole foods and these products are wreaking havoc on our bodies. Soy is one of these products that we, as Americans, are being overdosed with. Beginning January 1, 2013, all of My Dad & Me Family Farm's animal feeds will be 100% Soy Free!

Last but not least, Anna's famous Chocolate Bars and her Granola Cereal are now going to be made with 100% Certified Organic Ingredients! Even though her new bars and granola will be available starting January 1, 2013, she will still be refining the recipes so please give us your feedback.

Keep in mind that we all fight an uphill battle in a world of grossly compromised food. These new improved policies mean that our hard costs are going up considerably. Grass-fed cows simply make fewer gallons of milk and fewer gallons means less income for the farm. However, we are going to hold the line on the cost of our milk. Milk will remain at $10 per gallon and $6 for half a gallon. This means you will be receiving a superior quality milk for the same money.
A few products will see a price increase to help offset the cost of organic ingredients and organic feeds which are more than double the cost of conventional products. We are very excited to be making sustainable improvements and are dedicated to keeping these increases to a minimum. Even though our profit margins will narrow, we are committed to these healthy changes. Check out the links below detailing our most recent changes:
