Ben Cope, our videographer and web designer, has just completed a video for us which introduces our new 50/50 Handshake Basket. We are excited to introduce this plan which has some similarities to a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) but with the Handshake Basket the consumer will be given much more latitude. So far we have had a dozen new members who have come in under the Handshake Basket and about 30 or so existing members that are doing it voluntarily. It seems to be working very well for farmer and consumer.
When you sign up for a CSA you are asked to pay a large sum of money up front and for your investment your receive a weekly box that the farmer fills with whatever he has growing at the time. After about three weeks of squash and kale the consumer becomes frustrated with the lack of diversity and the farmer and the consumer become disenchanted.
With the My Dad & Me 50/50 Handshake Basket you pay no large sum of money up front and instead of us, the farmers, choosing what goes into your box, you, the consumer, will be given free latitude to fill your box with whatever you choose. My Dad & Me offers fresh grass-fed raw milk, pastured eggs, broiler chickens and rabbit which are all fed organic, non-GMO, soy-free feed. We also have certified naturally grown, grass-fed steaks and ground beef as well as pastured, non-GMO pork (sausage, link sausage, pork chops, and much more). We offer some wonderful grass-fed raw milk cheese, raw honey, vegetables & fruit in season, granola & granola bars and Jeff's homemade soap made with organic ingredients.
The Handshake Basket provides the consumer with much more choice and a more customer friendly pay-as-you-go system. In a nutshell, it represents a $50 basket of food for 50 weeks. The farmer gives 50% by growing and producing the products and the consumer gives 50% by committing their dollars each week. As an incentive to join up with us, when you purchase $50 worth of product you will receive $5 off. The Handshake Basket is a handshake agreement between farmer and consumer and is based on an honor system. We are excited to offer this new plan.
As time for membership renewal comes up, we are asking that you switch over to the new 50/50 Handshake Basket plan. We will no longer be offering membership renewals without this 50/50 Handshake Basket commitment so, please consider carefully whether this is right for your family.
