It's another girl!

Hello Farm Friends,

We are just a little late in getting the news to all of you but Leah (our daughter) and Michael had a little baby girl on Monday, February 3. Her name is Susanna Autumn and she weighed 7lbs 10 oz.  Leah is doing well and Gabriel is enjoying his new little sister.

We do have a little extra milk for anyone needing to pick up today before the bad weather gets us. We won't be able to switch everybody but if you need to come today email us and we'll do what we can to get your milk for you.

Please do not worry if you are unable to make it out tomorrow or Thursday to get your milk. We will leave everyone's milk in the refrigerators beyond the 48 hour grace period. Please just come as soon as you can because this does create some space problems for us. It takes a good bit of juggling with the many refrigerators on the property to hold that much milk.

I trust everyone is thoroughly prepared this time for the bad weather. If you are sleeping in your car, hopefully it is just because you like your car and not because you are stuck out on 285!

Until we get word of someone wanting to purchase the farm, we will continue to operate as business as usual. I know everyone is longing for something fresh and green but with single digit temperatures unfortunately nothing can survive that. Even our collards and kale which normally handle the cold very well, are hanging by a thread and doing very little growing.

I talked to one of my farmer friends who put out several thousand onions and lost them all to the cold! Normally onions are a pretty safe crop for the winter time but they can only handle about 10 degrees and we got down to three degrees a few days ago. All of the local farmers are hurting from the losses so bear that in mind when you get frustrated that there are no vegetables to purchase. Of course the sub-freezing weather also brings egg production to a screeching halt.

Fortunately the cows handle the frigid weather better than the scorching July sun so milk production stays fairly constant. So drink up! We have plenty of beef and pork and rabbit in the freezer and remember that wise old saying "My cow is vegetarian so I don't have to be!" It is true that we began our lives here on earth as vegetarians (Genesis 1:29) but when Noah got off the boat God changed all that (Genesis 9:3). We are no longer supposed to survive off plants alone and I am glad. Jesus was not tossing a salad for His disciples on the beach after His resurrection, He was grilling fish! (John 21:9)

I hope everyone is enjoying their snow day. We just spoke with Leah and they have 3 inches of snow in White, GA!

See you at the farm,
Daniel and Susan
