Hello Farm Friends,
The warm sunshine is such a welcome blessing. The extremely cold weather has confined us to the farm house far more than usual. We are all ready to emerge from our cocoons and get our hands in the soil! Certainly March is a great time to prepare garden beds but do resist the temptation to plant those items that a late frost will damage. Now is a great time to plant some Sugar Snap or Snow
Peas. As we move later into March you can sow your potatoes. Tomatoes, peppers and most everything else will need to wait until April 15th. If you have never gardened, consider growing some fresh vegetables for your family. It is a great way to get some needed exercise, a nice dose of vitamin D from the sunshine, and make a sizable dent in that grocery bill.
My Dad and Me Family Farm has some great news for the new year. This afternoon we received our
first batch of broiler chicks for the May 17th chicken processing. We will be branching out with a new breed of meat birds called the Red Ranger. A dear friend, Bill Lisenby, an emerging farmer and spectacular photographer, raised a batch of these birds last year and shared one with us. Anna took on the challenge to cook a Red Ranger along side one of My Dad and Me's Cornish Crosses. Bill's Red Ranger won the taste test unanimously. It was juicier and made a beautiful presentation at the table
with it's golden yellow skin.
Today we will start taking orders for these GMO-free, Soy-free, organically fed, pasture raised broiler Rangers. The price will remain the same at $5.50 a pound. Please include a $10 deposit per bird with balance due on Saturday, May 17th when birds will be processed and picked up. Please arrive on Saturday, May 17th between 4 and 5:30 pm to pick up your chickens. Sorry, due to the extreme costs of raising these
organically fed birds, we do not accept cancellations. If you will not be available on pick up day, please arrange for someone to pick up for you.
To order, please fill out a broiler order form on the back porch or you can email us your order and drop a check in the mail for your deposit.
Don't worry about getting your orders in early! If you miss out on the My Dad & Me chicken, you can always stop by
the local Kroger and get some good ole soy-filled, GMO-laced, antibiotic-laden, chlorinated, and now as of 2014, Chinese processed chicken! Yes, that's right, the US is now making their plans to send their live birds to China for processing and back to you for a full smorgasbord of disease producing, communist chicken; packed and ready to utterly and completely destroy your health.
See ya at the farm!
