Time to Plant

Published: Fri, 10/10/14

Hello Farm Friends,

These are exciting days at the farm. We have had several new calves born at the farm lately and Buttermilk is due to calve this Sunday as well. If you haven't seen them running around in the calf pen, pause long enough to enjoy the sights and sounds of the farm. We have some particularly pretty calves which will be future milkers. Audrey is the striking new little girl with the big white stripe across her back. She is precious! This also means that we have more milk available, so if you have been waiting to come join the farm or if you just need extra milk, email us and we will pour some up for you!

Fall is all but here and it is time to plant. We have gotten to where we enjoy the fall gardens even more than the spring gardens because we do not have to fight the bugs and the weeds. The front garden is coming in nicely now. We have planted collards, broccoli, kale, Brussels sprouts, cauliflower, swiss chard, cabbage, spinach, lettuce, beets and of course strawberries for the spring! If you need cow manure for your fall gardens, let us know and we'll be glad to bag you some.  David has just written another blog post about this subject titled:  Getting Ready for Fall Gardening.

Anna has been going to town with all her new bars. Not only are they all made with the highest quality organic ingredients, but they are also all sugar free! Anna has been working hard to tweak all of her recipes as well as add several new ones. She now has Cashew Date, Cashew Date Fudge, Peppermint Fudge, Super Dark Chocolate Granola and the various jelly flavored Granola Bars. The Cashew Date Fudge and the Super Dark Chocolate Granola are two of my favorites with a cold glass of raw milk. Stay tuned, more flavors coming soon...

For the last couple of weeks, we have been enjoying having Benjamin Horevay with us at the farm. Benjamin was an intern at Polyface Farm, run by Joel Salatin and his son, Daniel. Benjamin helped us process chickens, feed and milk the cows, as well as get our gardens planted and some early weeding done. He was also gracious enough to do a blog post while he was here. Take a minute and check out Benjamin's blog post here.

My Dad & Me Family Farm has been richly blessed to have so many wonderful, loyal farm friends that come out to the farm each week. We appreciate each and every one of you. We would like to say a special thanks to all of you who took the time to sign the petition. As is the case so often, they put off a decision on the development close to the farm until December. If you have not had a chance to sign the petition, we would greatly appreciate it.

Thank you for allowing us to be your farmers.
See you soon at the farm!
