Hello Farm Friends,

The farm was doubly blessed this week. Laura gave birth to a healthy bull calf, Leroy, and our Shiitake sweet gum logs began their fall fruiting. We have never seen such a flush of beautiful mushrooms. They only fruit once or twice a year so this is quite a treat. We enjoyed some last night for supper and they were delicious! We have bagged some for our farm friends, too. Come on out to pick some up and try them on your grill!

We have two openings left for the second yogurt class on Saturday, Nov.8th. Thank you for supporting our educational opportunities here at My Dad & Me Farm. We look forward to seeing all of you who are signed up for the first class, this Saturday, November 1st. Please come at 10:15 so we can start on time with making some fresh, raw milk yogurt, kefir, and butter!

This is such a wonderful time of year at the farm. The cows are enjoying the cooler weather and us humans ain't minding it either. The garden greens are progressing nicely. We have lots of lettuce and beet greens and the collards are beginning to trickle in. For those of you who haven't tried them, beet greens are wonderful cooked just like spinach. The flavor and texture is very similar. We are expecting some freezing temperatures this weekend so don't forget to pick all the items in your garden that may be destroyed by the sub-freezing weather. We still have some unripe tomatoes  and peppers that we will be harvesting. Anybody up for fried green tomatoes?

For those of you who follow our farm and blog but have not had the opportunity to join us, this is a great time to come "check out the farm". The milk is really flowing with 6 new calves in the "baby pen". Yes, cows must have a baby just as people do in order to produce milk so lots of babies mean lots of milk! Email us to set-up a day and time for your first visit. We would love to have you join us.

Thank you to all of our loyal farm friends that make it possible for all of us here at My Dad & Me Family Farm to be your farmers. We dearly love what we do and really enjoy hearing from you!
