Hello Farm Friends,

Our blackberry winter came early this year. We woke up to a winter chill in the air and a heavy frost on the ground. But the sun is in full bloom now and I am about to shed my shirt to soak up some vitamin D.

The greenhouse is one of my favorite jobs here on the farm and it is overflowing with organic starts. This year we have added the Marconi pepper to the list of plants that we will be offering. The Marconi is a super sweet, bull horn pepper and is exceptional raw or roasted. I simply love growing peppers. They require no staking or cages, so they are relatively easy to maintain in the home garden.

We have also added several varieties to our tomato collection, including the Juliet grape tomato and a Roma variety. They are all coming along nicely. I have been transplanting small seedlings into 3" pots and they are spreading out into their new home with gratitude. I can't wait for those first garden veggies!

Last year we grew a large number of the "Long Island Cheese Pumpkin". Anna has learned to include the meat from these beautiful pumpkins in biscuits and pancakes. The pumpkin adds a nice punch to the flavor and adds a healthy touch as well. We will have some of these pumpkin starts along with squash, zucchini, butternut, cucumbers, and even okra. Make plans to get your organically grown starts from My Dad & Me Family Farm this year. We will begin sales of these starts the first week of April. Watch for email updates!

It is time to plant potatoes!! The girls have prepared a bowlful of nice red, organic seed potatoes. They are $2.50 a pound and just the right size to plant whole. There is no cutting or cubing necessary. If you are not familiar with how to grow potatoes check out our blog post that provides details of how Willie, David, and I grow them here at My Dad & Me Family Farm. Those early "new potato pearls" are so tasty. Simply boil them with the skins on, add a generous patting of butter, and enjoy. Come on by the farm today for some seed potatoes and grow your own!

June chickens are all sold out. Susan has opened up broiler chicken sales for July 16th. Thank you farm friends for getting your orders in early. My Dad & Me is facing record sales both here in Georgia and now in Alabama as well. Thank you David, Tina, Willie, and Ellie for working so hard to build up the new farm near Hokes Bluff, Alabama.

David, Willie, and I had the privilege last week to do something David and I have dreamed about for many years. David drove up 411, north of our location in Alabama, to a hardware store and purchased 300 large mouth bass minnows along with several hundred blue gill and red ear sunfish. Even though I was not available to help David stock them into the two lakes we now own, I shared the experience by way of the phone. I did assure David that I would be available to help catch them out once they reach pan size.  :)

Our daughter Rebekah is still waiting delivery of Caleb. Doctor says all is fine, just be patient. God tells us that before He formed us in the womb, He knew us. We rest in His timing.

My Dad & Me is looking to purchase a used riding lawn mower. If you have one that you are desiring to sell we would love to hear from you. Would you mind snapping a picture of it with your phone and letting us know the price?

We have been privileged to purchase several items from farm friends in the past and like to give first dibs to those that trade with us! Let us know what you have.

Anna has been enjoying taking spring shots of the farm. I asked her to include some of her artwork in today's update. I hope you enjoy the farm gallery by Anna.

See you soon at the farm,

Daniel Hammond
