Hello Farm Friends, Our resident farm cat, Midnight, decided she would move her kittens from the cardboard box that we provided for her to a safer and more spacious location behind the milk refrigerators. The kittens eyes were beginning to open and they were
starting to move around. Mother felt the need to protect them from prying eyes and our insatiable desire to hold them.
Earlier this week, a couple of farm friend kids managed to entice the kitties to come out from behind the refrigerators. They were carefully holding them and stroking them when Midnight showed up on the porch and realized the disaster that was going on. She quietly walked up to the children that were sitting on the concrete floor, proceeded to gently confiscate one of the kittens by the scruff of the neck and took her baby right back to
its proper place behind the refrigerator! It was hilarious to watch. In another week or so, she will not mind all of the attention to her babies, but for now she is still
in protection mode. Stay tuned kids, kitties should be emerging soon ready for lots of love and indoctrination!
The abundant rain has caused the raised beds to explode. We have filled the fridges with some beautiful Swiss Chard,
Lettuce, and Kale. It's time to prepare some lightly boiled My Dad & Me free ranged Eggs, toast up some fresh Sourdough Einkorn Croutons seasoned with Anna's versatile Popcorn Seasoning, add your favorite salad dressing, and enjoy.
Susan and I, along with our grandson, Joshua, planted 59 tomato plants, 300 sweet peppers of various varieties, and two 100' rows of okra
along with an abundant amount of butternut squash, zucchini, yellow squash, and cucumber.
Susan has been making refrigerator pickles from the cucumbers and this has really simplified the process. They keep very well in the refrigerator and are
delicious.
If you have not put in your garden yet, there is still plenty of time. My Dad & Me Farm has lots of tomato, pepper, squash, cucumber, and pumpkin starts. So come on by the farm. We have a few of our Freedom Ranger broiler chickens left for the July 16 processing date. If you would like to stake your claim to some
of these delicious birds, shoot us an email.
I don't want to give away Susan and Anna's secret, but they have been working on a healthy dessert for all of us to
enjoy. They are in the process of perfecting their recipe and of course I have volunteered to be the CEO of the taste testing operation. I can't give you too many hints, but you can be assured it will have chocolate in it. That is just a given. Non-negotiable! Stay tuned :)
See you
soon at the farm, Daniel, Susan, & Anna David, Tina, Willie, & Ellie |
