Hello Farm Friends,
The cows are enjoying the abundant grass in the big pasture. Kiwi, Sparkles and Bumbles, our three new Jerseys, are blending right in with the group and finding their place in the pecking order. Liberty, our lead cow, is still in charge of the girls and makes sure they all obey her orders. She is also the biggest, and that helps to maintain order!
Susan and I got all of our tomato cages in place. We have approximately 60 tomato plants and they should start coming in the middle of July.
The gardens are fenced with white netting in order for us to be able to co-exist with the half a dozen wild geese that now live exclusively on our farm.
We have some beautiful lettuce, kale and swiss chard in the refrigerator today.
When we moved here to My Dad & Me Family Farm 17 years ago, we planted this American Beech tree. It has just started to produce Beech nuts and they are absolutely
delicious. They taste like Pecans but since they are so small (about the size of a sunflower seed) they are not harvested commercially but old time farmers have enjoyed them for centuries. Commercial farming has robbed us from a lot of delicacies that past centuries have enjoyed.
See you soon at the farm,
Daniel, Susan, & Anna David, Tina, Willie, Ellie, Heidi and Laura |
