It is time to pre-order your laying hen chicks!

Dear Farm Friends,

Are you looking for a few laying hen chicks? David has ordered us baby chicks that should arrive the first week of April. We will be stocking hen chicks in the Speckled Sussex, Black Copper Maran, and Easter Egger breeds. These are some of our favorites. The Easter Eggers lay a wide variety of green shelled eggs, the Sussex lays a nice brown egg, and the Black Copper Maran lays a very dark brown egg.

We are now taking orders for these chicks. The Speckled Sussex and the Easter Eggers will be $6 each, and the Black Copper Marans will be $12 apiece. We will also have a few rooster chicks of these same three breeds; they will be the same price.

A good rule of thumb is to keep two or three chicks per family member. Of course, you might want to have a few extras to supply your neighbors as well. We will also have Chick Starter, which is a wonderful organic feed from New Country Organics available from the farm.

Some of our Farm Friends may not realize that we sell all of New Country Organics products, and can get any of their items they sell from their website. We stock many of their animal feeds including Chick Starter, Grower and Layer and are glad to order anything else that you like. Every homestead should have a few laying hens; they are very simple to keep in small numbers.
