Our Chocolate Eggers are beginning to lay along with our Black Australorps. So be looking for the new dark colored eggs in your cartons!
Milk supply is going to be very tight for the next couple of weeks. I know some of you have already been shorted bottles. Thank you for your patience as we work through our time of low milk. We have 6 new calves due in the next 5 weeks so we should be flooded with milk very soon!
So we will be going from low supplies of milk to an abundance and at that time we will be asking our farm friends to help us expand with some new farm friends. We will be offering some incentives for those that refer us to their friends and family. More about that at a later date!
For those of you who are interested, I
thought I would give a brief explanation as to how the milk supply moves up and down over a year. David and I through artificial insemination, seek to get three to four cows pregnant every month of the year. This means that three or four mama cows are calving every month in order to keep the milk flow perfectly constant.
Of course the only
problem is that we do not live in a perfect world. And just as mamas don't always get pregnant the month they desire, so it is with our bovine friends. The summer heat can make it challenging on fertility. So in reality what happens is that cows pile up with their deliveries and we get flooded with milk. At other times we have no cows delivering at all over the course of a month or two and this can create shortages.
David works very hard and does an exceptional job, far above the national average, with the artificial breeding but there is still going to be lapses. We appreciate all of our farm friends purchasing 100% grass fed, A2A2, 100% registered Jersey raw milk from us and we would like to encourage everyone to spend some of their "Walmart dollars" with us as well. By giving your farmer the resale dollar that
would normally go to China, this helps local farms make it through the highs and lows of production. Thank you all for your understanding and we look forward to being flooded with delicious milk very soon!
